VISUAL POETRY

Cut-out text on painted cardboard panels (35 x 50 cm).

The current series was primarily created out of repurposed Vogue magazines.

The process of writing (or making out the text for each of the panels) involves working with pre-cut words and letters. It focuses on the instinctual use of language and spontaneous re-creation of signs as bearers of meaning.

Text unfolds out of the continuous screening of various cut-outs laid out on the work board. Meaning surfaces once connection is made between several words;  or between scattered letters that merge through word-building.

It is an internal, subjective process, always anchored in the present moment, and always being negotiated between impulse and meaning.

It is also influenced by the choice of paint, as text is generated out of the association of color and mood, abstract representation and intuition, or stimulus and form.
